The History of our Namesake:
Col. WILLIAM F.LINDSEY (1801-1852). Texas calvary member, Surveyor and founder of San Marcos.
In 1839 Lindsey moved his family to San Antonio where Lindsey accepted the position of deputy county surveyor
of Bexar County. After the Mexican Army occupied San Antonio in 1842, Lindsey moved to La Grange and then in 1848
moved to Hays County. He opened a title and real estate company. In March 1851, William Lindsey along with 2 others, bought land
and laid out the town of San Marcos. Many say his home was located on the land where the Lindsey Lofts are currently situated.
Col. Lindsey died at his home in San Marcos on November 16, 1852. His family continued his business for many years.
